Edo Government Rejects Peter Obi’s ADC Attack Allegation, Describes Claim as False and Malicious

Image
The Edo State Government has noted with concern the allegation by former Anambra State governor and Labour Party figure, Peter Obi, claiming that members of his political camp were attacked by government officials in Edo State. The government categorically describes this allegation as false, malicious and a clear misrepresentation of the facts. We wish to state unequivocally that the Okpebholo administration is not, and will never be, in the business of attacking innocent Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliation. No directive was at any time issued by the Governor or any organ of the Edo State Government to target members of any political party. These allegations lacks credible evidence and appears calculated to mislead the public and create unnecessary political tension. The statement recalled the Governor’s earlier position regarding high-profile political visits to Edo State, where he made it clear that his comments were purely guided by security responsibility as the Ch...

OKPEBHOLO'S EDO AND THE SWEET SMELL OF GOVERNANCE - By Kassim Afegbua.

Image
The requirements for good governance are as simplistic as having a populace that buys into governmental policies to make the right impact. Governance is a two-way traffic; between the leader and the followers, between promise and performance. Projects are easy to contend with if the urge is truly to serve the people. During his campaigns, Okpebholo was very practical in his examples; using Edo money to build Edo. He identified security, health, infrastructure, natural resources and education as the key component of a state that requires urgent intervention. He lamented during his campaigns that Edo state should not be captured among the backward states, if only the government of the day took time to deploy the resources of the state in addressing the numerous developmental challenges. He is very sublime in his humility, very calm in his disposition, very bold in his decision making, very unassuming in his comportment yet unrelenting in his delivery.  Okpebholo does not come ...

Image
At the weekend, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo stood before dignitaries at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, to commission the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)–facilitated internal road network. But he did more than cut tape and exchange pleasantries. In one sentence, which captured the moment, he said that Edo State would “continue to collaborate with federal agencies and development partners to deliver projects that improve lives and accelerate growth."  The venue and timing were not incidental. The statement came at a defining moment of the government's  policy identity and political tone. By choosing the commissioning of a federally supported infrastructure project as the platform for this declaration, Governor Okpebholo, successfully, anchored his message in a concrete example of what cooperation can produce. The optics were deliberate: partnership in theory, partnership in practice. Not a few persons appreciated the deeper meaning of the governor’s posi...

Image
When Edo residents line the streets, to wave, chant; and applaud during  Governor Monday Okpebholo’s project inspection, it is no longer a routine spectacle. It is civic feedback in its purest form. The repeated scenes of jubilation during his inspections of major road and flyover projects reveal something deeper than excitement — they signal validation of the infrastructure component of his S.H.I.NE agenda and growing public acceptance of his development philosophy. Two recent inspections bring this reality  lower home. Chants, applause, and cheers greeted him as he toured the site with the project engineers, witnessing firsthand the progress of road construction.
