FONWIP Presents 7th Batch Interest Free Loans to Women in Benin
Edo State Commissioner for Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation, Chief Barr. Bisi Idaomi has commended the Forum of Nigeria Women in Politics, FONWIP for uplifting women in the society with financial support
The Commissioner who was represented by a director in the ministry Mrs. Betty Idialu made the commendation during the presentation of the 7th batch interest free revolving loans to beneficiaries by the FONWIP in Benin city.
According to the Commissioner, the FONWIP has been consistent and compassionate with the interest free revolving loans which have uplifted women economically.
"This seven seasons of uplifting women with interest free revolving loans is about giving women empowerment to stand tall.
While thanking FONWIP for building an inclusive society, the Commissioner noted that when women are empowered, the society prospers and she advised the beneficiaries that this financial support is a seed which should be nurtured.
In her key note address, Prof. Mrs Margaret Abikwi who urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously and be disciplined disclosed that Empowering the women is impacting lives and not charity.
The President and co-founder of FONWIP, Amb. D'cn Florence Gbinigie JP, PhD Congratulated the beneficiaries of this 7th batch for scaling through the screening and advised them to step up in putting more efforts into their businesses for greater yield.
"As a reminder, this money is not free money, neither is it for buying clothes or living extravagant life. Defaulters will definitely be held liable and prosecuted alongside their guarantors.
"We sincerely thank our partners, Kingdom International Ministries, being led by Apostle Christopher and Lakeisha Colander and Veronica Colander of the USA for their constant support and partnering with us.
"This empowerment has been ongoing constantly twice yearly for the past six years and the targeted participants for this economic empowerment are females, which includes, the poor women, survivors of domestic violence, the trafficked and widows," she added.
In his paper presentation titled, Qualities of a Good Business Woman to manage a successful business enterprise, Barr. F.E Abbe also told the beneficiaries that as they receive the loans to improve or expand their business, it is important that they do not fail to pay back as at when due so that others can benefit, noting that failure to pay back can lead them into trouble, because they can be arrested or even jailed by the court if found guilty.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Mrs Eugene Adalla who was represented by Mrs. Eseosa Onebamoi expressed appreciation to Hon. Florence Gbinigie for what she is doing and called on other well meaning individuals to give back to the society because the government alone cannot do everything.
Some of the beneficiaries who have been consistent with their business were given gifts by the FONWIP President after the presentation of cheques to all beneficiaries and there were testimonies from previous beneficiaries how the loan has assisted to build their businesses.
