Edo Govt. Committed to Sustainable Waste Management Practices...Unveils Academy

 

Edo State Waste Management Board, in a bid to consolidate their gains recorded so far has introduced EWMB Academy which hopes to bring on board an educational behavioral change platform.

The Director of Admin and Supply, EWMB Idiaghe Osagie who read the opening address on behalf of  Dr. Lucky Enehita-Inegbenehi made this disclosure during the official unveiling of the Edo State Waste Management Board Academy in Benin City.

He said the event marks another giant stride in the innovative and transformative approach of the Waste Management Board.

He further said that the board has revolutionised waste evacuation by implementing 24 hours evacuation, adding that monitoring and surveillance programmes in major hub like markets and other commercial areas remain tidy and safe for daily traders and customers.

The MD also said that the board’s activities have been greatly enhanced with the state of the art waste management facilities provided by the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Some of these facilities include brand new Bulldozers, Pay loaders, Dump trucks and low bed trailers.

He said moving beyond basic trash collection, the board has championed initiatives to convert waste to wealth, protecting communities from plastic pollution and laying the groundwork for a secular economy.

Dr. Enehita-Inegbenehi also disclosed that the establishment of the academy further demonstrates a forward- thinking vision of the board aimed at strengthening proper waste management and environmental sanitation practices through education, training and community engagement.

He said the board has no doubt that the academy would serve as a platform for equipping individuals with the knowledge, skills, discipline and responsibility required to a cleaner and healthier society.

The event was attended by government functionaries, NGOs, CSOs and children from secondary schools across the state.
