Energy, Maritime Reporters Hold Inaugural Meeting in Edo


Members of the Energy and Maritime Reporters (EMR) in Edo State have held their inaugural meeting in Benin City, with a call for unity, cooperation and professional commitment among journalists covering the sector.

The meeting, which was chaired by Andy Ohwobetehe, brought together pioneer members of the group to formally commence activities of the Edo State chapter.

Speaking at the meeting, Ohwobetehe welcomed members and outlined the objectives of the association, stressing that the group remains under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and is not operating independently of the union.

He noted that the association was established to strengthen collaboration among journalists reporting the energy and maritime sectors while contributing to informed reportage on developments within the Niger Delta region.

During the meeting, the chairman placed a call to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the group, both of whom expressed delight over the successful inauguration of the Edo State chapter.

The national leaders commended members for the initiative and dedication shown towards expanding the activities of the association across the country.

They also emphasised the importance of the group in view of the strategic role of the Niger Delta in Nigeria’s oil, gas and maritime economy, urging members to remain united and cooperative in pursuing the objectives of the association.
