Energy and Maritime Reporters Seek Partnerships, Training Opportunities in Edo
Members of the Energy and Maritime Reporters, Edo State Chapter, have emphasized the need to seek sponsorships, training opportunities and strategic partnerships to strengthen the Association and enhance professional development among members.
This formed part of discussions at the chapter's meeting held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Benin City at the weekend
Speaking during the meeting, the State Chairman, Pastor Andrew Ohwobetehe, thanked members present as well as those who attended the inaugural meeting held the previous week. He urged members to remain courageous and steadfast, noting that many people may not show interest in the Association at its formative stage until its prospects become more visible.
According to him, the National Chairman is pleased with developments in Edo State and has encouraged members to remain committed, assuring them that there would be significant benefits for those who persevere.
Ohwobetehe stressed the importance of reaching out to organisations for sponsorship and training opportunities. He also disclosed plans by the Association to pay courtesy visits to the Chairman of the Edo State Council of the NUJ, the Edo State Government, the Edo State Commissioner of Police and other relevant stakeholders.
The chairman further informed members that those interested in attending the inauguration ceremony of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter scheduled for June 9 this year would be free to participate but would be responsible for their logistics expenses.
Also speaking, Mr. Eubaldus Enahoro, the treasurer commended the chairman for his efforts in driving the Association. He observed that the Association might not appear attractive to many people at the moment because it is still in its formation stage, but encouraged members with ideas capable of advancing its objectives to contribute such ideas through the platform.
Enahoro said that what was most important at this stage was not the size of membership but proper planning and effective implementation of ideas generated by members.
He also pointed out that numerous mining activities were taking place across Edo State and urged members to explore opportunities within their environment. He suggested visits to agencies and institutions such as the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), as well as the state commissioners responsible for Oil and Gas, Mining, Energy and other related sectors.
The Secretary of the Association, Mr. Francis Ogbuagu, expressed support for the proposal that the Association should explore opportunities within its environment for the collective benefit of the organisation and its members.
