Edo South APC Primaries and the Politics of Insults
We are all witness to the drama that took place after two winners emerged from the All Progressives Congress, APC Edo South Senatorial Primaries.
This no doubt has heated up the political space in the state, even though it is not a new phenomenon in politics, when losers refuse to accept defeat honorably.
But the sad aspect of this trend from loyalists of one of the aspirants, Pastor Ize-Iyamu, is the level of degradation of human decency and opprobrium exhibited publicly so far.
The political loyalists launched an unprovoked attack on His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Governor and leader of the party in the state with all manner of insults, slandering his name and office apparently to please their pay master.
However, a preacher once said in his sermon that the intensity of attacks we get from adversaries is an indication that we are actually standing on the right path.
It is most often, at that stage all we need is tenacity and be more focused on our goals because all the attacks want to achieve is to distract us.
Take for example, a football match, the attack goes to the man with the ball and the attack becomes stronger when we are taking the ball to the goal post.
Now, we are seeing the steady progress going on in all sectors of governance in Edo State and there is a new reorientation that it is not business as usual.
It is the expectation of political pundits that with the 2027 election drawing closer every day and the Governors promise to give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2.5 million votes, the APC should remain united for the task ahead.
Those who belong to the camp of any aspiring politician during the Primaries should be guided that there are no permanent friends in politics but what binds them together is the interest
Therefore, flimsy excuses should not be allowed to tear down what has been built all these years and the onus is on their political leader to caution them. That is why Pastor Ize-Iyamu should advise his loyalist to desist from their actions and apologize
Now, there are some lessons we must learn when it comes to who we should associate with at any particular time irrespective of our political inclination.
Those we associate with are a very strong part of our human life because the people we hang around with have a strong influence on how our life will go.
It also means that the kind of people and what they do on our behalf to fight for our interests will obviously determine what happens to us now or in the future
Irrespective of how blessed we are and no matter what God plans to do in our life, we can speed it or destroy it by the caliber of people we move with, associate with or the kind of people who influence our life affairs by their actions.
In Edo State today, the Governor Monday Okpebholo administration is people oriented and those who are concerned about their personal interests rather than the desires of the people should not forget that the real battle is ahead and not within.
Therefore, those we associate with matters a lot. If God wants to change a situation, He filters the bad from the good before his purpose manifests.
For example, there was a blind man that Jesus Christ wanted to heal. The Bible recorded that Jesus walked the man out of the city because He had to change the man's association and his location in order to give him a miracle
I am of the opinion that if God wants to change a situation, He filters the bad from the good before his purpose manifests and It is time that our revered Pastor knows that anyone who takes to the social media to cast aspersions on the peace loving governor in the guise of politics is not doing him any good
There are situations that God cannot intervene until He successfully changes where we are or who we are with and this is very important even in our present political dispensation
This understanding is very necessary so that we do not continue to pray and fast endlessly for a situation and at the end there are no answers and we begin to wonder why God is not doing what we expect all these while we have been striving to achieve a goal
The problem may just be that we are going with the wrong crowd of people in the name of loyalists or whatever and God needs us out of them. He may just want us out of that circle of people who have no regards and respect for constituted authority going about insulting people like Governor Monday Okpebholo and other leaders of the party
