Governor Okpebholo's Performance is responsible for the Growth of APC in Edo - Afegbua

 

Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua has described the growth of the All Progressives Congress APC in the state as the result of the good performance of Governor Monday Okpebholo  

 Speaking to newsmen in Benin City, during a Press Conference organized by the Ministry of Information and Strategy, the Commissioner said those saying the APC is turning the country into a one party state are not on the ground politically.

According to him, the APC has succeeded in wooing prominent politicians in the opposition political parties almost to the point that you will think there is no opposition in Edo state.

"The six former local government chairman of the entire six local areas of Edo North and some Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftains have moved to the APC. In Edo Central, almost 80 percent of the chieftains of the PDP have joined the APC, as well as in Edo South.

"The APC is growing in strength and bounds and that is because the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo is doing very well. When we interact with those who are joining the APC, they tell us that they under rated the Governor in terms of performance, but eighteen months down the road, they are shocked by the kind of projects that the Governor is doing.

"As a party man we need to expand the scope. It is different from those who are saying one party state, that is lazy scholarship. It is very feeble, because we have 21 political parties. 

"The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC registered additional 3 parties after the 18 that we know and National Democratic Congress NDC is one of them.

"If we have 21 political parties, it is not the business of APC to help you grow your party. Before you step out to register your party you must have put in place mechanism to grow and expand the scope of your party and there must be a reason why you think you want to grow the party.

"With the 1999 constitution of Nigeria, the laws are very clear if you have two third spread in 24 states of the federation in terms of your Exco members, you have identifiable address, for headquarters you have offices in 24 states of the federation to meet the basic requirements.

"But before now there was a flurry of political parties in Nigeria to the point we had about 74 or thereabouts. Everybody who can carry his brief case will call himself a political party.

"Now, we have 21 parties and I think that they are solid enough to practice democracy. But you must grow your party, you must look out for Nigerians. We have 94 million registered voters. This is a huge figure to reach out to.

"But in the name of opposition you are shouting APC is turning the country to one party. Why are you allowing APC to have an inroad if you are actually on ground 

"President Bola Tinubu was in the Alliance for Democracy, AD when President Olusegun Obasanjo as President of Nigeria tried to strangle the opposition. He remained committed to AD until it metamorphosed into Action Congress, AC to ACN and with the coming together of other political parties to form the APC and they got power, that is the value of consistency," the Commissioner added.

Gov Okpebholo Leads APC Delegation on Condolence Visit to Okao of Ologbo

  Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo led a high-powered delegation of government officials and party leaders on a condolence visit to the Okao of Ologbo, Chief Emmanuel Iyase, following the passing of his wife, Mrs. Mandaline Iyase.
