Gov. Okpebholo is Practical about Governance with Verifiable Projects - Afegbua
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has applied a practical governance approach by providing solutions to under development of the state within the last eighteen months in government.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua during a press conference held in Benin City.
According to him, the Governor has been relentless in confronting leadership with the equanimity of purpose and essentially intervened to arrest the wroth inherited by the state government with verifiable projects across the state
"Governor Okpebholo has confronted developmental challenges in a manner that provides solutions to nagging under development, infrastructural decay, crippled social infrastructure, poor health facilities and others.
"In the last eighteen months now, we can beat our chest that the Governor has done so much to advance critical infrastructure in the state. We are not into propaganda, you all are correspondents and media practitioners in the state and you can see for yourself.
"Very soon we would be completing the fly over at Ramat Park, we have commenced the fly over at Adesuwa Junction by Sapele road, and we are recovering the very bad state of Sapele road which the previous government erected the sign post, saying they are sorry the road belong to the Federal government and they abandoned it. But we are going to complete it very soon," he noted
The Commissioner emphasized that, "We are intervening in the construction of roads across the state, like the Ekenwan - Gelegele road and when you go there as Journalists you can see the quality of work going on there. The government is fast tracking some of these construction work because of the rainy season, but curiously, the rain in the state is already here.
"The timing that we expected to advance these critical infrastructure as a result of the dry season seems to be eroding because of the rainfall. But that is not deterring the government.
"The roads linking 14 villages in Uhunwonde local government are almost completed, and roads in Uromi axis, Ekpoma down to Uromi is 95 percent completed and in Edo North, asphalt of the Ibillo road and the Ikpeshi- Igarra road has commenced.
"About 80 schools are nearing completion, 160 primary health care facilities spread across the state to provide health care for the rural areas have been completed.
The Commissioner also disclosed that 650 teachers have been employed and over 1000 health workers recruited into the state civil service.
While noting that work has commenced at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital after paying huge debt, the Commissioner said the state government has equipped the Oredo Health Centre along the Sapele road to serve general purpose.
Kassim therefore appealed to Edo people to redeem their tax commitment to the state to ensure that the government does more for the people
