The University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL), is set to make history as it prepares to host its maiden convocation ceremony, a landmark event that will see the award of first degrees, recognitions, and presentation of prizes to its pioneer graduates.

The four-day ceremony is scheduled to be held from Wednesday, February 18 to Saturday, February 21, 2026, featuring a blend of academic, cultural, and ceremonial activities across the University’s campuses.

Proceedings will begin on Wednesday with a press conference at the Council Chamber, followed by an interdenominational service at the 1,000-Capacity Hall.

The opening day will also feature a novelty football match and vibrant music and dance performances at the Owa-Alero Campus Football Field.

Activities on Thursday will be anchored by the Founders’ Day Lecture at the 1,000-Capacity Hall. The day’s programme will also include a command performance at the UNIDEL Arts Theatre, Performing Arts Complex, as well as the formal inauguration of the University’s Alumni Association.

On Friday, February 20, attention will turn to research and innovation with a research exhibition at the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) Arena, showcasing cutting-edge works by staff and students.

This will be followed by the convocation lecture, while the Vice-Chancellor’s Evening of Wellness will round off the day at the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge.

The convocation activities will climax on Saturday, February 21, with the commissioning of projects across the University’s campuses, culminating in the convocation ceremony proper at the Main Campus Mini Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stella Chiemeke, described the maiden convocation as a defining moment for the institution, reaffirming UNIDEL’s commitment to academic excellence, research advancement, and community development.

The ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries, stakeholders, parents, and guests from within and outside the state, as the University celebrates its first generation of graduates and lays a strong foundation for future academic growth.
