Governor Okpebholo Delivers on Another National Assignment as Edo Regains National Relevance - By Godswill Inegbe

The performing Governor of Edo State, Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, has once again demonstrated leadership, competence, and national relevance by successfully delivering a landmark assignment for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Osun State governorship primary election.

Governor Okpebholo, who served as Chairman of the Osun State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, led a team of eminent party leaders and governors to conduct a peaceful, transparent, and rancour-free primary election, widely adjudged as credible and exemplary.

Members of the committee included Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State [Co-chairman], Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State. Former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State was also a member of the committee, while Solomon Maren served as Secretary.

Addressing party leaders, delegates, and aspirants in Osogbo on Friday, including former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Benedict Alabi; former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye; APC State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal; and former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, Governor Okpebholo noted that the party had reached a decisive moment. He charged all stakeholders to work collectively to reconnect Osun State back to the centre for accelerated development.

The Edo State Governor assured participants that the primary election would be conducted strictly in line with the principles of transparency, fairness, and equity. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening internal democracy within the APC by ensuring full compliance with the provisions of the APC Constitution and the Electoral Act.

On Saturday, December 13, a total of 1,660 duly elected delegates—five from each of Osun State’s 332 wards—participated in the governorship primary election. The delegates were selected during ward congresses held across the state. The exercise was conducted in a peaceful, orderly, and convivial atmosphere.

At the conclusion of the process, Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) emerged as the Osun State APC governorship candidate through a transparent and consensus-driven primary election held in Osogbo, the state capital.

The successful conduct of the Osun State governorship primary election once again underscores Governor Monday Okpebholo’s capacity to effectively deliver on critical national assignments. It also reflects Edo State’s renewed prominence and relevance within Nigeria’s political landscape under his purposeful and strategic leadership.
