GOV. NWIFURU AT 50 - By Maxwell Okechukwu Abakaliki


                                  Executive  Gov. of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis  Ogbonna Nwifuru 

The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt.Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.  marked his 50th birthday anniversary celebration and dedicated  a mega Catholic church for worship and priest quarters in recognition as the body of Christ.

 The Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, His Lordship Most Reverend Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu, in the official commissioning commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his generosity in building a house for God.

Bishop Chukwu made the commendation while dedicating the St. Emmanuel’s Ultramodern Parish House in Edukwu-Achi Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area. He acknowledged the governor’s commitment to the Church and prayed that God would bless him for his decision to erect a befitting house of worship and priest's house, recognizing the Church as the body of Christ.

While appreciating the governor’s various legacy projects, the Catholic Bishop appealed to him to include the construction of a befitting chaplaincy in the building plan of the ongoing construction of University of ICT Oferekpe. He emphasized on the need for a place of worship within the university was  the spiritual growth of both students and staffs.

The Governor in his address  acknowledged the vital role of the Church in societal development and democratization and he expressed gratitude to Bishop Chukwu, Bishop Emeritus His Lordship Michael Nnachi Okoro, and other members of the clergy for their unwavering commitment to moral upbringing in the state.

He further said that the, "idea of constructing the   church was conceived in 2020 when he was still Speaker of  Ebonyi State House of Assembly and he expressed delight that the project which began during his tenure as Speaker, has now been successfully completed to the glory of God. 

The Governor  also recognized the efforts of the former Parish Priest, fondly called Fr. Nwizi, who designed the master plan that has now become a legacy project .

Bishop Chukwu, alongside other clerics, parishioners, and well-wishers  offered prayers to Governor Nwifuru, asking God to grant him long life, good health, divine protection, and wisdom to continue steering the development of Ebonyi State.
