International Women's Day, 2026 : FONWIP Advocates For More Opportunities For Women To Lead

 



The President, Forum of Nigerian Women in politics (FONWIP) Hon. Dr. Florence Gbinigie JP  has called on government institutions, political parties, Civil society and all Nigerians to  advocate for the need to have the Reserved Seat Bill for women to become law for a better society and support policies that promote gender equality, protect the rights of women and girls, and create more opportunities for women to lead  

The FONWIP President who made the call in her message to mark the International Women's Day, 2026 with the United Nation theme, "Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls," noted that the future of Nigeria cannot be built without the active participation of women in decision-making at every level.

She stated that, "as the world celebrates International Women's Day 2026, I join millions of women and men across Nigeria and the globe to honor the strength, courage, resilience, and remarkable achievements of women.

"Women have always been the backbone of our families, communities, and nation. Yet, despite our immense contributions to national development, women continue to face barriers to equal representation, opportunities, and recognition. This must change.

"As President of the Forum of Nigerian Women in Politics (FONWIP), I reaffirm our unwavering commitment to advocating for greater inclusion of women in leadership and governance."

According to her, the future of Nigeria cannot be built without the active participation of women in decision-making at every level.

"International Women’s Day reminds us that empowering women is not just about fairness—it is about building stronger societies, advancing democracy, and ensuring sustainable development.

"I call on government institutions, political parties, civil society, and all Nigerians to support policies that promote gender equality, protect the rights of women and girls, and create more opportunities for women to lead.

"To every Nigerian woman—young and old, in the cities and in rural communities—your voice matters, your dreams are valid, and your leadership is needed.

"Let us continue to rise, support one another, and break every barrier that stands in the way of progress. FONWIP  Says Nigeria women need the Reserved Seat Bill to become law for a better society, " She added.
