Women's History Month: FONWIP Honours Grassroot Women
She made the appeal during the celebration of the Women's History Month organized by FONWIP in Benin city.
According to her, a gender equal world is a world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive, a world where difference is valued and accelerated, noting that, " together, we can forge gender equality."
She disclosed that this year's celebration of the International Women's Day which coincides with the commemoration of the 30th year of FONWIP's existence (1996-2026) is used to celebrate women's achievement, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to forge genders parity.
"These are community based, hard working women, still fostering women's equality, despite their ages. The high and low may not see them, but we do. Their efforts have brought in many women into positions of authority and Politics today, through their advocating power on women's rights.
A guest speaker, Barr. Agatha Osieke in her paper titled, " Identify Your Rights and Pathways Through Supporting and Recognition For Greater Opportunity" said it is the rights of women to demand for protection from the government.
According to her, " women should advocate when they notice lapses about their safety and protection. The government has been mandated to protect you and if there are things that endanger you, the government should be held accountable."
Also, Dr. Bright Oniovokukor, in his presentation titled, " Women Living Healthy and Handling Menopause," noted that women need to live healthy because they are playing significant role in the society."
The highlight of the day was the Birthday celebration of Hon. Florence Gbinigie by the women.
