According to him, the 16 Days of Activism on Gender Based Violence which starts from the 25th of November to end on the 10th of December is to create awareness that gender violence against the male and female is wrong.
"The topic for this year is, End Digital Violence Against women and girls. But I want to talk about Bullying which causes a lot of problems for the children, including the destruction of self confidence.
"We have physical, verbal, social and cyber bullying which can create sudden fear of going to school, withdrawal from friends, unexplained injury, loss of confidence and always afraid, lack of interest in school work and there are many children who cannot talk about it.
While noting that some children have committed suicide because of bullying, Comrade Onome added that it also causes stress, depression, emotional damage and an undue school environment.
He told the children that everyone deserves to be protected from the hands of bullies and when they are being bullied they should speak up to their teachers, parents, stand with those being bullied by exposing them and not to join the bully by laughing to embarrass the victim, because bullying is not a strength, but weaklings.
The FONWIP Coordinator, Hon Favour Eghe Oseki who spoke on sexual assault advised parents to teach the girl child the parts of the body nobody should touch.
According to her, " the private parts of the body are private and nobody should touch them. They must tell their daddy and mummy if anybody touches them.
While urging parents to always give their children listening ears, she noted that the school can also help in building a good relationship between parents and children
She advised the children not to be shy to cry out, adding that they can call on FONWIP for help because they protect ladies from violence and assault.
"The women have a right to decide who to sleep with, they should not be afraid to cry out if they are being sexually bullied.
"FONWIP handles cases of violence against girls and women. You can call us on this number- 08034734675. Say no to sexual bullying," she added.
