MONTHLY CLEAN-UP EXERCISE HAS COME TO STAY IN EBONYI By Maxwelll Okechukwu Abakaliki.

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Victor Chukwu, has commended the total compliance in the monthly clean-up exercise held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Ebonyi State.

According to Hon. Chukwu, the compliance was impressive, with most businesses and individuals adhering to the instructions.

"I've gone round the state, I've not seen any shop that is open, even the people that are outside and they are not working, most of them have been arrested and we charge them to court."

Those who failed to comply were arrested and taken to court, where they would face penalties or other consequences. 

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of keeping the environment clean, stating that it is for the benefit of individuals and the community as a whole. 

"If you keep your environment clean, you are not doing it for any other person, it is for you." He also highlighted the potential health risks associated with poor environmental sanitation, noting that diseases can spread from one compound to another if environments are not kept clean.

According to him, the Ebonyi State Government remains committed to maintaining a clean and beautiful environment. The Commissioner encouraged residents to adhere to the instructions of the Ministry of Environment, emphasizing that the efforts are aimed at ensuring the safety and beauty of the environment.

The government plans to continue its environmental sanitation efforts, building on the successes of previous initiatives. 

On his part SSA, to the Governor on Enviroment Hon. Okechukwu Nwokoro.while speaking with Newsmen during the clean-up exercise said "The clean-up exercise is part of a broader effort to promote a healthy and sustainable environment in Ebonyi State.

The total compliance recorded in the clean-up exercise is a testament to the effectiveness of the government's efforts. 

The Ebonyi State Government urges residents to maintain the momentum and continue to prioritize environmental sanitation. By working together, the state can achieve a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful environment for all towards People in the State," he noted
